Celtic fans will be looking forward to Friday’s press conference as Brendan Rodgers will address the media for the first time since the club’s statement last Saturday.

The club spoke out after Celtic fan unrest over the summer transfer window sparked anger towards the Parkhead board.

However, the statement only fuelled that anger as the Celtic board refused to take accountability for a disastrous transfer window that left Brendan Rodgers’ first team seriously weakened.

But 24 hours prior to the statement, The Scottish Sun ran a story where a Celtic insider claimed that faceless sources said ‘senior figures’ within the club were unhappy with Rodgers’ comments about the summer transfer activity.

It was an article that outraged Celtic supporters and now, a journalist from the media outlet has confirmed that they will be attending this week’s pre-match press conference which could make the upcoming Q&A really interesting.

David Friel confirms attendance at this week’s Celtic press conference

As many fans know, The Scottish Sun’s head of sport, Roger Hannah is the man who wrote and released the article about the Celtic manager.

However, it won’t be him who will attend this week’s press conference. David Friel confirmed in The Set Piece podcast [22m 29s] that he will take in the pre-match Q&A.

Friel’s colleague Rob Grieve said the press conference will be ‘fascinating’ to see how Brendan Rodgers ‘handles it’ but Celtic fans will be looking forward to seeing if the Hoops gaffer will have anything specific to say to the journalist about that piece.

What ‘senior figures’ at Celtic said about Brendan Rodgers

As a reminder to fans, here is what the ‘senior figure’ at Celtic said about Brendan Rodgers.

The report claimed, “Senior figures inside the club believe Rodgers is engineering his exit.

“What he’s said in public has torn the club apart. On and off the record discussions are creating division throughout the club.

“He’s the only manager in the club’s history who has repeatedly questioned things. It’s been the same board, same management and same strategy. The club have spent tens of millions.

“When Brendan came back, he agreed to the club’s strategy. There are now people inside the club who are deeply unhappy with his words.

“To make matters worse, these issues appear to be seeping into the performance of the team. It’s like Groundhog Day again.”

Even reading the comments again, it really is unbelievable that anyone from the club would come out and speak against the Celtic boss like this.

The Friday press conference is set to be interesting indeed.
