Celtic’s rivals sent a warning despite Brendan Rodgers’ side ‘not being great’

The majority of Celtic supporters will probably agree that the performance levels of the team are not where they should be.

Celtic toiled against St Mirren on Flag Day as a Luke McCowan goal ensured the defence of the title got off to a winning start.

Since then, Celtic have won three out of the other four Scottish Premiership fixtures and drew with Rangers at Ibrox.

And despite that, Brendan Rodgers’ team sit top of the league as Barry Bannan delivers a warning to Celtic’s rivals despite admitting that the Bhoys have not been at their best.

Barry Bannan tells Celtic’s rivals Brendan Rodgers’s side is ‘only going to get better’

Celtic’s form has improved of late and against Partick Thistle, the Bhoys looked back to their attacking best.

And when asked what he has thought of his team so far this season, Bannan admitted that whilst Celtic are not at their best, he warns that they will get better as the season unfolds.

Bannan told Open Goal [1h 22m], “They’ve not been great, but they’ve been winning games. So you always see with Celtic as well, especially Brendan’s teams, they do have a phase of the season where they dip whether it’s the end of the season.

“This season, they’ve not started great, but they’ve won [almost] every game and went to Ibrox and got a draw. So they’ve had tough games as well.

“Aberdeen away was tough on paper. They dealt with that fine. They just don’t really look like they’re going to concede goals, which always helps.”

Barry Bannan vindicates Celtic’s defence with key Rangers stat

Celtic have conceded just one goal in the league so far this season and Bannan hits back at what he’s heard being said about the Hoops’ back four.

Bannan continued, “A lot of people slaughter the defence as well. But I think defensively this season Celtic have been really good, even at Ibrox.

“I don’t know if Rangers had a shot on target. So when you’re defending, well, your strikers are always going to pick up, and the attacking players are only going to get better as the season goes on.”

Celtic fans saw a glimpse of the attacking front line improving against Partick Thistle with Sebastian Tounekti getting his first goal as he linked with Kelechi Iheanacho.

Hopefully, Rodgers’ side can keep the back door shut tonight as Celtic take on Red Star Belgrade and the attacking front three do their business to nab all three Europa League points.
