Celtic’s Sebastian Tounekti will return to Glasgow as a record-breaker after his international exploits with Tunisia.
Tounekti was called up to the Tunisia squad for their World Cup qualifiers even though the Celtic winger is set to play in next summer’s tournament after the African side sealed their place last month.
The 23-year-old was left out of Tunisia’s 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe after Tounekti suffered a slight injury prior to the match.
However, Tounekti returned to action yesterday for his country as the Celtic attacker played a part in the 3-0 win over Namibia to help seal an African World Cup record

Celtic’s Sebastian Tounekti’s role in Tunisia sealing World Cup record
Tunisia’s latest win means that the African nation’s side ended their World Cup qualifying campaign undefeated after 10 games.
Out of those fixtures, the Celtic winger played in two of these as Tounekti helped Tunisia garner 28 points with nine wins and a draw.
That points tally is the largest-ever total amassed by an African side in World Cup qualification as Tounekti now returns to Celtic a record-breaker.
The Hoops star played the first 45 minutes of the 3-0 win before being taken off at half time as a precaution with the Tunisians already 1-0 up.
Celtic winger ends almost four-year World Cup record
The record-points tally Tounekti helped Tunisia surpass was set by Ghana back in 2022 in their qualifying campaign for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The Ghanaians’ points total in that campaign was 23 after six wins and five draws helped seal their place at the controversial 2022 World Cup.
Tounekti now returns to Celtic, hopefully, injury-free and brimming with confidence, and that can only be a good thing for Brendan Rodgers who faces a tricky tie at Dundee on Sunday.
