This is a huge season for Celtic’s new signing, Sebastian Tounekti.

The Tunisia international has two major tournaments on the horizon with his country, including the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, and then the 2026 World Cup next summer.

But on Friday, for Tunisia’s World Cup qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe, Tounekti was left out of the main squad despite being called up, as his team went on to secure a comfortable 6-0 win.

On Tounekti’s current situation, it’s both good and bad news if you look at it from a Celtic perspective.

Sebastian Tounekti not part of Tunisia’s squad for World Cup qualifiers

The simple answer to all of this is that Tounekti’s injured. As soon as the Celtic Park faithful hear that, they would prefer him to return to Glasgow.

Celtic have some huge games coming up after the October international break, and Tounekti is going to play a huge role.

But, according to Al Araby, Tounekti has a calf issue after he ‘underwent tests on Monday morning’, but it’s not thought to be serious.

It simply required the all-action winger to ‘rest for a few days’, hence why he was left out of Friday’s squad, but it will be interesting to see if he features against Namibia on Monday.

Tounekti’s positive start to life at Celtic…

Tounekti has been a breath of fresh air at Celtic, and it’s much-needed, given the players who have left and the drab performances everyone else has produced.

When you look at his numbers, they make for pretty simple reading because he only has one goal to his name and zero assists.

But this is a prime example of how numbers don’t tell the whole story because Tounekti has been one of Celtic’s best-performing players since his arrival.
