Celtic transfer business may not be over; Ange Postecoglou's recent history tells an encouraging tale

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou likes to pull a surprise or two in the transfer window.

If the 8:26am announcement of Kyogo Furuhashi or the Cameron Carter-Vickers loan confirmation arriving four minutes before the deadline weren’t enough evidence of that, there’s plenty more.

Postecoglou has tended to do much of his transfer business early in the window, or even prior to it opening in some cases, but he’s wowed the support with some late flourishes too.

Days after telling the media “I doubt we’ll bring anyone else in” (Celtic official YouTube, 8:40) last January, the signing of Matt O’Riley from MK Dons was announced.

Few Celtic fans were expecting Aaron Mooy or Moritz Jenz to arrive in the summer, but deals were done and in Mooy’s case, it’s proven to be important business.

The moral of the story is that Ange has a plan for this side that few are privy to.

While many of us may look at the squad and reckon that we’re well stocked in all areas, Celtic’s manager is likely to see things differently.

So where could he look to strengthen? With Giorgos Giakoumakis likely to leave the club in the coming days, he may want to sign a third forward to compliment Kyogo Furuhashi and the recently-signed Hyeongyu Oh.

With the encouraging potential for another arrival, as well as plenty of room to move unfancied players out, it promises to be an interesting final few days of the January window.
