Unless Martin O’Neill gets the gig again, Celtic will likely be searching for a new manager in the summer.

What’s interesting is that, over in the English Premier League, Bournemouth, who have been overachieving in recent years, given their budget compared to the rest, will part ways with Andoni Iraola.

Bournemouth already have confirmed Iraola’s replacement, as former Celtic manager target, Marco Rose, who was previously at RB Leipzig, will take over from next season.

When it was suggested that Iraola should go to Celtic, Ally McCoist proceeded to jibe at the champions of Scotland by stating he is ‘too big’ for the Hoops.

But Charlie Mulgrew was quick to put the former Rangers striker in his place on talkSPORT.

“That would mean he is far too big for Rangers, wouldn’t it?” stated the former Celtic defender.

Should Celtic make a decision on Martin O’Neill’s permanent future before the end of the season?

Would Andoni Iraola join Celtic ahead of Bournemouth exit?

Celtic’s ambitions in the summer are going to be severely tested. Everything is broken, and who comes in next will determine how the next few years pan out.

While Celtic fans want Dermot Desmond gone, let’s be honest, it’s not going to happen, so ambitious calls need to be made regarding the next manager.

Iraola would fall into that category. But then you have to question, what is his next expected move? And that’s where Celtic don’t have a chance.

Iraola is Basque-born, and he represented Athletic Club during large parts of his career, but he has yet to coach his boyhood side.

There are suggestions that Iraola is going to take charge of Athletic Club for next season; if that’s the case, then Celtic, even if they tried, have no chance of securing his services.

Dean Saunders: “I am surprised you have come in here, after what Ally said about calling Celtic ‘a small club.’”

Mulgrew: “Iraola is too big for the Celtic manager?”

Saunders: “Yeah.”
