Jens Berthel Askou seems to be the name on every Celtic fan’s lips currently.
As the Hoops prepare for a gruelling run-in under Martin O’Neill, the Danish manager has Motherwell on the best form in the country.
Along with Roberto Martinez, he is among the favourites to step in to the Celtic dugout in the summer, should O’Neill call it a day.
But Charlie Mulgrew has urged Celtic to hurry.
Would you take Jens Berthel Askou in the event that Martin O’Neill leaves Celtic in the summer?
Charlie Mulgrew on Celtic manager Jens Berthel Askou’s approach from Blackburn
Asked on The Breakdown about who he expects to be Celtic’s next manager, Mulgrew said: “If I had to put money on it I would go Jens Berthel Askou.
“He’s right on the doorstep and surely the question has to be asked.”

The ex-Celtic vice captain continued: “I know he’s wanted by Championship sides down south.
“I would be asking him the question. I think it will be him. Blackburn contacted his agent. I’m not sure if it’s a club he’d be keen to jump at.”
Askou hasn’t entertained questions about leaving Motherwell, insisting his focus is to qualify for European football then go from there.
If his Steelmen can finish above Celtic, there may even be question marks over his willingness to move to Parkhead. He will undoubtedly have many suitors.
In an interview with talkSPORT earlier this month, O’Neill said that his current feeling was that he wouldn’t want to stay in the job beyond this season.
A Scottish Premiership trophy could change that, but not for definite. Craig Bellamy and Robbie Keane are two other candidates who have been mentioned.
But Chris Sutton, Frank McAvennie and Peter Grant have all joined Mulgrew in endorsing Askou – he certainly seems to be the media favourite at the present moment.

The career of Celtic-linked Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou
Askou spent most of his playing career in Denmark but had two years in England with Norwich and Millwall. He is a friend of Russell Martin, with whom he played at Carrow Road.
As a manager, he began his career with Vendsyssel in Denmark before winning the Faroese league and cup double with Havnar Boltflelag.
Two more formative years at Horsens in Denmark earned him a move to Swedish side IFK Goteborg, but he left that role to become an assistant manager at Sparta Prague in 2024.
This move failed; Sparta dismissed him six months later. Regardless, he became an assistant at Copenhagen shortly later, winning the Danish Superliga.
He joined Motherwell after his short-term contract in the Danish capital expired. He quickly turned heads with his football at Fir Park, and now finds himself as the most talked-about manager in Scotland, given his exceptional impact in Lanarkshire.
