Charlie Nicholas eating his words on Celtic and Lazio

Former Celtic star and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has embarrassed himself again.

The big mouth star of Soccer Saturday was giving soundbites through the week on the Celtic and Lazio tie.

Following the first victory, Nicholas said the Hoops were lucky to win. Then, before last night’s victory Nicholas was tipping the Italians to get the win.

This isn’t the first time Nicholas is angering the Celtic fans with comments that are bizare for an ex-player.

Charlie Nicholas in the wrong for Celtic and Lazio prediction

He is known as ‘Champagne Charlie’ but it’s clear he was on a bit of the bubbly when it came to talking about Celtic and Lazio.

He said on Sky Sports on Wednesday: “I’m feeling a bit awkward about this one.

“Celtic did brilliantly to beat them with a last-gasp winner first time around. I did flag up a 2-1 win, but they were fortunate.

“Lazio went fourth in Serie A and will get their revenge in this one.”

Nicholas’ comments are beginning to grate on the Celtic support as they are strange most times. For a former player and self-proclaimed fan, these are out of the ordinary.

However, it appears that he is wrong again as late heroics mean the Hoops are through to the knock-outs.

A different Hoops striker hyping up the club

Someone Nicholas should look to is another former Celtic striker in Chris Sutton.

The big Englishman was born and raised in Norwich yet seems to have the connection and know-how that Nicholas lacks. Fans can already see how much the club still means to Sutton especially on commentary.

Even a scroll through his Twitter page proves that this is someone who knows how to talk the club up.

Sutton is rightfully critical at times, but Nicholas is in a universe of his own trying to be controversial in strange ways. Nicholas better buckle up though, as the Hoops are sailing into the Europa League next round.

Fans will now be wondering if Nicholas will change his tune as the competition progresses. Many aren’t getting their hopes up.
