Celtic are two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after matchweek six of the top-flight, with St Mirren sitting as ‘best of the rest’ in second.

A rousing win for the Buddies against Hearts on Saturday ensured they maintained their unbeaten league start, with Celtic the only other side not yet defeated in the Premiership.

The Bhoys had previously picked up an impressive 3-0 win on the road at Livingston despite going down to ten men in the first half. Brendan Rodgers’ side sit top on 16 points, with St Mirren on 14 and Rangers third with 12.

Elsewhere on Saturday, there was a 2-0 win for Hibernian at home to St Johnstone while Dundee and Kilmarnock played out a dramatic 2-2 draw.

Today, Scotland’s European contenders Aberdeen and Rangers were in action with two home victories delivered. The Dons thrashed Ross County 4-0 at Pittodrie while Michael Beale’s side scraped through a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Ibrox.

Sky Sports described the third-placed side’s win as ‘lucky’ after a Cyriel Dessers deflection gave Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first half.

The broadcaster states there was a ‘chorus of boos’ at the full-time whistle despite the home victory, with some fans expressing their dissatisfaction with the performance and presumably Michael Beale’s management. They’re definitely feeling the pressure across the city.

Celtic now have a free midweek after the Scottish League Cup exit and will have a strong period of preparation for the upcoming trip to Motherwell next Saturday lunchtime.

Of course, in ten days’ time, there is the small matter of hosting Lazio at Celtic Park in the UEFA Champions League. The Bhoys are in a strong position but there are lots of difficult tests ahead.

In other news, Lazio struggles continue ahead of Celtic Park trip; fan pressure, Sarri admission.
