Chris Sutton has confessed that there is one position in the Celtic starting XI that has him concerned.
The January transfer window is just around the corner and Wilfried Nancy will almost certainly be dipping into the market to improve the squad.
Celtic fans told 67 Hail Hail that they would spend the money on a striker if possible, but Sutton thinks there is another area that may need to be addressed.
Should Viljami Sinisalo be the long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel?
Chris Sutton questions Kasper Schmeichel’s place in the team
A number of Hoops first-teamers have yet to discover their best form this season, including Kasper Schmeichel.
The 39-year-old was brilliant in his debut campaign, but hasn’t been anywhere near as impressive in this campaign.
Schmeichel made a mistake in the Aberdeen win by failing to get a strong enough hand on the shot, allowing the Dons to equalise, but was bailed out by late goals from his teammates.
That was one mistake too many for some, who now feel that it is time for Viljami Sinisalo to start over Schmeichel.
Sutton didn’t directly say this, but hinted that there are some concerns to be had about the current number one.
Should Celtic prioritise replacing Kasper Schmeichel in the transfer window?
Writing in his Daily Record column, he said: “There were questions over Kasper Schmeichel at the goal as he got a hand to it but maybe could have done more.
“I’d given him the benefit of doubt over that one but I do think there are issues over the goalkeeper position right now.
“There’s no doubt Schmeichel is still a superb shot stopper and he’s produced incredible saves, even this season.”
