Chris Sutton doesn’t want Celtic to mess about when it comes to the Adam Idah transfer and has called on the Bhoys board to deliver the signing.
Celtic are reported to be locked in negotiations with Norwich City for his signature after having an initial offer of £4m rebuffed by the Canaries.
It’s said that Idah himself has expressed an interest in moving permanently to Glasgow which could help push through a transfer.
There’s an expectation that the Bhoys will reach an agreement for the player to travel north but we’ve seen these summer sagas before.
Sutton reckons that even if Celtic need to shell out a little extra, the Celtic board should deliver the signing that Brendan Rodgers has publicly stated he wants.
Chris Sutton on Adam Idah to Celtic
The former Bhoys striker said [Daily Record]: “In all honesty, it would be daft of Norwich not to push up their demands because they are aware that Celtic are getting a proven performer into their ranks. So, as with most deals, both parties are going to have to give a little to get it over the line.
“But the facts are it has to be done. When Rodgers comes out immediately after the Scottish Cup Final and says he wants it done for the next season, the onus is on the board to do it. To be perfectly honest, with the future of Hyeongyu Oh appearing to lie elsewhere given the interest which has been shown in him and his drop down the pecking order when Idah arrived, it’s crucial.
“Celtic may have to shell out a little more than they would like to get it over the line, but Idah is no project now. He’s shown he’s the real deal and that’s why, even if they have to go a little further in the spend, it’s a deal that has to be concluded.”

Celtic can’t fumble on Idah now
After Rodgers so publicly expressed his wishes that Idah would arrive permanently in Glasgow, it’d be a massive fumble for the Celtic board to not sign him up now.
Norwich may be presenting that they’d like to keep the striker but realistically it looks like the deal is well within the spending capabilities of Celtic, unless the Canaries move the goalposts further.
Sutton is right, it’s time to conclude this deal in short order and get Idah in the building for a strong pre-season.
Everyone is eager to see what he can do with a full season of working under Rodgers after a strong nine-goal loan spell last term.
