Pundit Chris Sutton doesn’t think the Celtic players will be thinking too much about Fashion Sakala’s comments in the build-up to this weekend’s Scottish League Cup final.
Sakala referred to the Bhoys as ‘the other mob’ and insisted to reporters that the Ibrox side are ‘so much better’ than Celtic, despite languishing behind in the Scottish Premiership table.
This evening, when Ally McCoist tried to claim there was some sort of psychological game at play, Sutton hit back with his own sarcastic assessment.
He said on BT Sport: “Do you think he’s got into the Celtic player’s heads? I’m sure there’s panic within the Celtic dressing room.
“Callum McGregor and Kyogo, they’ll be quaking in their boots saying ‘Wow, he called us the other mob, we’re outraged, let’s take our eyes off the ball guys.'”
As we’ve already seen, one of the dressing room leaders has already defused what was said. Cameron Carter-Vickers was in no mood to entertain the comments as an issue at a media conference today.
Ultimately, nobody has to wait long to see the measure of the two teams. We’re less than 48 hours away from kick-off now and each side will get the chance to show what they’re all about.
For me, Celtic have earned the recognition of being the best team in the country. Rangers can undoubtedly cause us bother in a one-off game but the Bhoys certainly have the trust of the support to shut that challenge down.
Fingers crossed all the chatter coming from our noisy neighbours looks especially silly come Monday morning.
