Callum McGregor is dividing opinion at Celtic like never before.

What doesn’t help McGregor’s cause, or for Celtic overall, is the fact that the team just isn’t performing well, compounded by the negative off-field noise and protests.

Celtic were beaten by Braga on Thursday night in the Europa League, to make matters worse, as there have also been more goalless draws than goals at home for the champions of Scotland this season.

The man wearing the armband is McGregor, and he is coming under fire, especially after Chris Sutton tried to defend the midfielder on social media.

What has been said about Celtic captain Callum McGregor?

In his last Daily Record Sport column, Sutton defended McGregor when talking about all things Celtic, including the under-fire board.

When the former striker put that post up on social media, it was met with a fair bit of criticism from the Celtic Park faithful.

One Bhoys fan questioned Sutton, ‘not sure why you are sticking up for McGregor’, before going on to explain the issues with the skipper.

@kharmon67: ‘Not sure why you are sticking up for McGregor, if you want to play fast, flowing football, you can’t have a captain who doesn’t have the legs any more in such a pivotal position.’

To probably add further oil to the fire, Sutton made a statement, which right now, isn’t going to be agreed upon by all supporters.

The Treble-winner under Martin O’Neill thinks the rest of the Celtic players ‘aren’t on the same wavelength’ as McGregor.

‘The other players aren’t on the same wavelength as him…’
