Jamie Vardy to Celtic seems to be a big talking point at this stage of the season.
Vardy is now a free agent and is looking for a new club at the ripe old age of 38. With Celtic in the market for a striker, it was inevitable the former England striker would be spoken about for a move to Parkhead.
Like James Forrest did at Celtic Park, Vardy signed off his season (and his Leicester career) by scoring a landmark goal on his final home game of the season.
Netting his 200th goal, Vardy now leaves Leicester on a high and after it was suggested to Chris Sutton that he could join Celtic or Rangers, the Hoops hero fired some home truths that won’t go down well at Ibrox.

Chris Sutton tells BBC man ‘let’s not get daft’ when Jamie Vardy to Celtic or Rangers is mooted
Shay Given was speaking about possible destinations for Vardy when Sutton suggested Celtic, but when BBC man Rory Hamilton jumped in with Rangers, the Parkhead hero wasted no time in putting that idea to bed.
Given told Football Daily [43m 30s], “He’s just had a season, we just talked literally two minutes ago, about him being star of the service all season and not giving the chances.
“Does he want to go through that with another promoted team and not get the service or chances maybe at a bigger team? I think it’d be better off playing at a bigger team and coming off the bench and being a backup striker and enjoying the last couple of years.
“Or he goes to America, or what you mentioned before, Rory is Wrexham. Again, just talking about making a film of Jamie Vardy’s career and stuff and all that kind of stuff. It feels like a Hollywood film in a sense and maybe that’s the perfect place for him to finish his career.
Sutton replied, “What about Celtic?”
Given: “Celtic could be an option, Chris, yeah.”
Rory Hamilton: “Or Rangers, Chris.”
Sutton: “Let’s not get daft. He’ll want to go to a successful club. The numbers, aren’t they both level on 55 titles? Celtic are the world champions now, aren’t they?
“More trophies than Rangers, yeah. The world champions. Rangers were the world’s most successful club up until a while ago, but now it’s Celtic.”
The massive pay-cut Jamie Vardy would need to take to join Celtic
First off, Jamie Vardy to Celtic shouldn’t be entertained. He is a quality striker but with the club’s long-term vision for developing players, the Leicester City icon just does not fit the transfer model.
But let’s say Vardy was open to a Celtic move, the wage cut to which he would need to agree would be huge.
According to Spotrac, Vardy was the highest paid player at Leicester on £140,000 per week. At least a 70% reduction would need to be agreed to for the move to Parkhead to be given a green light.
And even then, it would be too much to pay a player who is extremely close to retirement. Vardy to Celtic may have been an option five or six years ago.
But now, the Parkhead club would do well to sit this one out.
