Chris Sutton impressed with Laxalt and Rogic performances in Celtic defeat

Celtic striker turned pundit Chris Sutton didn’t have many good things to say about Celtic in the aftermath of the 3-1 Europa League group stage defeat to Milan.

However, he did single out two players that did impress him on the night – Diego Laxalt, and Tom Rogic.

Laxalt very good and good to see Rogic back with some nice touches, can’t get away from it though another disappointing night for Celtic” Sutton said on Twitter after the game.

Excellent in cameo performance

When you are looking at the game overall, Laxalt and Rogic stood out for the Hoops. Rogic was excellent in his second-half cameo. He helped the Hoops gain a foothold in the game. He also showed that he should be featuring in the first-team more often.

Everybody knows all about Rogic though, so let’s focus on Laxalt. He has only played two games for Celtic, against Rangers and Milan, the team that he was signed on loan from.

When you consider the magnitude of those games, and the fact that Laxalt hadn’t played for months, he has been superb for Celtic.

Fearless against former side

He was fearless against Milan. Okay, it was a bit of a concern that he seemed to be one of Celtic’s most attacking players for much of the game. However, that shows just how much he wanted to impress against his former side.

It is just a pity that he had to be taken off in the second-half as Celtic were building up a head of steam. To be honest, he was probably exhausted after playing in two big games this week.

As Sutton says, it was another disappointing night for Celtic after the loss to Rangers. However, the performance for much of the second-half pointed to a way forward for Celtic. That might be trying to find the silver lining in a bad result, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Sutton is correct to point out that the duo did well. Hopefully they take plenty of confidence from the performance going forward.
