Chris Sutton issues brilliant Rangers jibe with Celtic top of the Premiership table

A huge week awaits Celtic and Rangers.

Before Celtic lock horns with Rangers in the League Cup final, the duo have European matters to deal with in the Champions League and the Europa League, respectively.

For Brendan Rodgers, it’s an away trip to Croatia to take on Dinamo Zagreb and the chance to make a case for a top-eight finish.

Whilst Rangers will welcome Ange Postecoglou back to Glasgow, as the Celtic hero will be looking to earn three points with his Tottenham side at Ibrox.

Postecoglou was used to three points in Celtic colours and he has a chance to weaken Philippe Clement’s men before they walk onto that Hampden Park turf.

This all will happen amid Celtic extending their lead at the top of the Premiership table over the weekend.

Chris Sutton says Rangers ‘just 11 points behind’ Celtic in the Premiership table

The champions saw off Hibernian on home soil, with Aberdeen dropping points at home to St Johnstone and Rangers beating Ross County.

That means that the Bhoys are nine points clear of Aberdeen and a further 11 clear of Clement and his players.

In his own typical way, speaking on BBC’s 606 programme, Chris Sutton jibed at Rangers’ standings when reacting to their win at Ross County.

“Rangers fans, big win, 3-0 away at Dingwall at Ross County, just the 11 points behind Celtic now,” said Sutton.

“But you face Celtic in the cup final. How do you feel going into that? Do you think you can take Celtic’s scalp?”

Celtic’s upcoming Premiership fixture before Ibrox trip

Celtic could be into a double-figure lead by the end of the year, in fact, you would be surprised if it didn’t happen.

No-one seems to be stopping them and, aside from that heavy defeat against Borussia Dortmund, you can’t have too many complaints about what the team has produced.

Celtic take on Zagreb on Tuesday night, then Rangers in the final, before its Premiership takeover ahead of Christmas and the New Year trip to Ibrox.
