Chris Sutton lists two Celtic moments as pivotal Philippe Clement Rangers ‘warning signs’

Celtic’s form has meant they have barely had to concern themselves with anything Rangers related this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are already a whopping nine points ahead of the Light Blues who continue to drop points under the guidance of the heavily criticised Philippe Clement.

It has been Aberdeen who have been pushing the league leaders so far from their nine Scottish Premiership outings with ‘rivals’ Rangers struggling to keep the pace with either side.

It has been misery for Gers this term with Clement coming under fire and now Hoops hero Chris Sutton has pointed out two key reasons for the fan anger pointing towards the Belgian.

Both are major moments from the last two campaigns and both involve Celtic.

Last season Celts were minutes away from a dramatic 3-2 win at Ibrox over their opponents on the day after goals from Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley and Adam Idah looked to have given them the points.

Rabbi Matondo would hit a stunner into the top corner in stoppage time to share the spoils and Clement would inexplicably describe the afternoon as a ‘moral victory’ for his side.

The celebrations from the hosts that day were laughable and it wasn’t long until Clement again had his own support questioning his antics.

Clement claimed a late 3-3 draw at Ibrox last season was a ‘moral victory’ for Rangers

In the aftermath of another 2-1 win for Celtic back in May to end Gers’ title hopes, Clement claimed the expected goals of both sides were level at half-time in that game as another moral victory.

Then there was the 3-0 victory for Celts in September when he claimed it might have finished level had they taken their chances.

For Sutton, writing in his Daily Record column, all were major blunders by the Ibrox custodian and cost him goodwill with their fanbase.

“They have the Belgian Beale in charge,” he wrote. “I can’t believe quite how off the rails the manager has gone. After his first few months there were positive signs. He secured a trophy and spoke a lot of sense.

“After the nonsense of Michael Beale, they looked to have a sensible, serious operator in charge.

“They now have a Belgian waffler who is spouting the kind of gibberish that Pedro Caixinha came out with. The warning signs were there last year with his ‘moral victory’ against Celtic and it’s got worse and worse.

“There was the ‘biggest win in four years’ after beating the mighty Ross County. The shots on goal trophy after getting thumped by Celtic. The hurling the boards at Hampden to celebrate after squeezing past St Johnstone.

“The can-can in the Ibrox press room, the constant promise of jam tomorrow. His post match interview on Sky the other night was the final straw.”
