Rangers player accepts the Celtic reality that Philippe Clement couldn’t after ‘brutal’ derby

To most observers Celtic were far and away the better team against Rangers on Sunday as they picked up a 3-0 derby victory.

Goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor pushed Brendan Rodgers’ side to another superb win at the start of this season.

If you listen to pundits such as Graeme Souness or even Ibrox boss Philippe Clement, you might have heard a different outlook on the game.

Clement was in a rush to laughably point out that the score line could have been 3-3, while Souness was in full meltdown mode live on talkSPORT earlier in the week.

The reality is that Celtic are miles ahead of Rangers right now on and off the pitch. They had no answers for the Bhoys on Sunday and it seems at least one man across the city understands that.

Cerny speaks the truth about Celtic win over Rangers

New signing Vaclav Cerny reckons his side were ‘outclassed’ at Celtic Park, stating this week [Rangers Review]: “We didn’t do well at all, they outclassed us in everything. Now we have to catch them at any cost, that’s our main goal.

“I haven’t seen such a rivalry for a long time. Of course, I never played for Sparta Prague or Slavia Prague in their derby. But compared with our main derby it is far bigger and more brutal.

“A lot of people ask me about the Scottish league and I would like to say that I don’t think it is significantly different from other top European competitions.

“There are obviously better quality clubs and lesser quality ones. The top four teams in Scotland at least all have great football quality.”

The eight-point chance to pile on pressure

Despite only being a handful of games into the season, Celtic now have the opportunity to open up a massive eight-point gap on the Ibrox side before the next time they play.

The Bhoys face Hearts at home next Saturday before a tricky trip for Clement, Cerny and company on Sunday against Dundee United at Tannadice.

Another confident, winning display against the Jam Tarts would pile the pressure on the Ibrox lot for that Tayside jaunt and ask serious questions of them. Any chance to turn the screw must be taken. There’s a reason why Celtic fans are relishing the return of club football.
