Luis Palma failed to take his Celtic chance.
Celtic might be flying this season and many individual players are thriving, including the wide players, Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn.
But Palma has found life difficult, he has gone backwards from last season and, as a result, his minutes have dried up.
However, during Celtic’s goalless draw against Dundee United on Sunday, he was given a run out – around half an hour – with Brendan Rodgers having to deal with changes to his squad.
Key players were missing following the League Cup triumph, so it opened the door for the fringe players to prove their worth.
Chris Sutton critical of Luis Palma as Celtic drop points against Dundee United
It was an ugly game from Celtic’s perspective at Tannadice, as the team, especially the forward line lacked that connection and killer touch or finish.
Chris Sutton noted that when Palma was introduced into the action at the hour mark, he looked ‘really decisive’, but then everything changed.
He became sloppy in his play, including losing the ball in crucial areas to the frustration of the away fans and Sutton stated that he then became ‘slightly hesitant’, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/12/24).
“When he first came on, he was really decisive and now he is slightly hesitant,” said Sutton. “He is up against Ryan Strain, who reads it easily (Palma cutting onto his right foot).
“The referee lets the play run on and then he calls it back (for the foul on Strain).”

Luis Palma is miles behind Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn
It’s a blank cheque for the Honduras international, in terms of his stats, and it’s not a good look for his future or attempts to break into this Celtic side.
Palma looks and is playing like he is miles behind the likes of Maeda and Kuhn, especially the latter, who was struggling and has now transformed.
As posted by Transfermarkt, the German star has 23 goal involvements this season and is flying.
