Brendan Rodgers’ second stint as Celtic boss is going rather well.
You could argue there was an element of surprise when Rodgers returned to Celtic last summer and how it was a big talking point.
First of all, there was disappointment with Ange Postecoglou leaving for Tottenham because he was a fan favourite and how he picked up the mess from that ill-fated Neil Lennon spell.
Then there were sections of the Celtic fanbase who had the opposite feeling towards Rodgers because of how he left in 2019.
That decision to take the Leicester City job midway through the season didn’t go down well with fans and that’s why there was a bitter taste in the mouth when he came back.
But in Rodgers’ second stint, the double is put on the table, including beating Rangers in the Scottish Cup final thanks to Adam Idah’s dramatic late winner.
And now, Celtic beat Rangers in a dramatic League Cup final, to further enhance Rodgers’ reputation and you wonder what those critics think now?
Martin O’Neill thinks Brendan Rodgers has ‘overcome’ Celtic fans who ‘doubted’ him
From one legendary manager to another, Martin O’Neill has lauded his counterpart for the job he has done as ‘absolutely super’.
The 72-year-old understands the ill-feeling some had towards the current boss and how they were ‘doubting him’ because of how he left.
But O’Neill thinks all of that has now ‘gone by the wayside’ and seemingly he has been forgiven, as he told talkSPORT (17/12/24 12:10 pm).
“Absolutely super because he had to overcome or win over fans who were doubting him,” said O’Neill.
“Doubting him, not in the sense of what he achieved, but the manner in which they thought he left the football club in the first place.
“But that’s gone by the wayside now and (the cup final) just cements things.”

How O’Neill and Rodgers have helped Celtic create history
From one era to another, Rodgers and O’Neill have combined to create history at Celtic.
The latest trophy success means that Celtic have now won 119 trophies in their history and no other team in the land has more.
Rodgers has contributed to ten of those – and you sense there is plenty more to come, whilst O’Neill helped himself to seven during his time in the Parkhead dugout.
