Chris Sutton believes he knows what the issue at Celtic is right now after Brendan Rodgers’ side lost to Dundee.
Sutton has probably been more vocal about the problems at Celtic than any other Hoops minded pundit out there and is not shy in delivering his forthright views.
With Celtic fans’ unhappiness at the board well documented, it’s the on field issues that Sutton is concerned about.
And in his immediate reaction to Celtic’s defeat to Dundee, the former Hoops striker absolutely nails why his old club are struggling for form right now.

Chris Sutton explains why he ‘can’t really see things improving at Celtic’
Celtic’s recruitment has come under the spotlight right now and with some of Rodgers’ summer signings failing to hit the mark again, Sutton pinpoints where it has all gone wrong in Paradise.
Sutton said on X, “The problem is you can’t really see things improving. With respect it used to be in recent times Jota, Kuhn, O’Riley, Abada, Gioukoumaki, Kyogo…
“Celtic in the forward area are bang average…”
That has been a problem for months now, not just weeks. And when Celtic fans look at how these players have been replaced, it’s little wonder performances on the park are suffering.
Looking at Celtic’s replacements for Abada, Kyogo and Matt O’Riley
Over the course of the last two years, all the players Sutton has rhymed off have been replaced at some point.
So let’s take a closer look at how Celtic have gone about that.
Matt O’Riley
- Benjamin Nygren
- Paulo Bernardo
- Luke McCowan
- Arne Engels
Kyogo Furuhashi
- Kelechi Iheanacho
- Callum Osmand
- Johnny Kenny (albeit he was at Celtic before Kyogo left)
- Shin Yamada
Liel Abada
- Sebastian Tounekti
- Michel-Ange Balikwisha
- Hyunjun Yang
- Luis Palma
- Nicolas Kuhn
It’s fair to say that not one of the signings have lived up to or gotten close to the quality O’Riley, Kyogo and Abada gave Celtic.
It’s little wonder Celtic are not just struggling to score goals, but create them as well.
