Chris Sutton names three youngsters who could now be rueing the day they left Celtic

Celtic have lost a number of top young talents to some of the biggest clubs in England and Europe over the past few years.

The most recent examples are those of Rocco Vata and Ben Doak.

Doak left Celtic for Liverpool and, so far, he is equipping himself well among some of the best players in the world at Anfield.

As for Vata, we all know the situation behind that and whilst he made his debut for Watford yesterday, it’s still early days yet to assess how he will do at the Championship club.

However, there are three youngsters who left Celtic in the not-too-distant past that Chris Sutton reckons could now be regretting their move away from Paradise.

Sutton questions Celtic trio’s exits

Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison both left Parkhead for the glamour of Bayern Munich and Karamoko Dembele chose to play in France with Ligue 1 outfit Brest after the trio decided to advance their careers elsewhere.

And these are moves that Sutton thinks those players now regret after how their careers have panned out since.

Sutton said [Daily Record], “You look at the ones who have left in recent times. We saw Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison head to Bayern Munich before they even penned pro deals at Parkhead.

“Hepburn has only played a handful of games for Munich’s B team and had loan spells at Queen’s Park in Scotland and in the Austrian Second Division.

“Morrison has tasted slightly more action and is now at Queen’s Park in the Championship after doing well on a loan spell. But is that where they saw their careers going?

“You can go back to Karamoko Dembele. When he was a teenager, you had Scotland and England fighting over him as he was the next big thing.

“But he’s now 21 and was at Blackpool in League One last term.”

Indeed, these three are not the only players that have seen their careers hit a downward trajectory after leaving Celtic.

We discussed recently how Vincent Angelini and Josh Adam were both released by Brentford and Man City after failing to make the grade at their new clubs.

It’s now been over a month since they were let go and they are still to find new clubs. Sutton’s comments are timely considering Celtic could be about to lose another top talent in Daniel Kelly.

The youngster is yet to sign a new deal at Celtic but could do well to take heed of the five players noted here who all thought they could better themselves at other clubs.
