To say that Chris Sutton wasn’t impressed with Celtic’s performance against Sparta Prague in the Europa League would be putting it mildly.
The Hoops failed to turn up in what was a must win game to make the last 32 of the Europa League, going to down to what was a desperate 4-1 defeat.
Sutton started his onslaught at half-time, whilst appearing on BT Sport’s coverage of the game.
“Not good enough”
“For a must win game, Celtic’s players should be ashamed. Not good enough, by any stretch of the imagination. Celtic haven’t shown the confidence or the desire” he said (BT Sport 3 HD, 05/11/20, 20:56).
Sutton was similarly scathing at full-time.
“One of the most gutless displays I’ve ever seen from a Celtic team. I thought they chucked it. They bottled it at the end. Pathetic” Sutton vented (BT SPORT 3 HD, 05/11/20, 21:51).
It is hard to argue with anything that Sutton says about the game. It truly was a disappointing night for Celtic. The Hoops were so very poor and it was a desperately poor night for the club overall, and for Neil Lennon especially.
All but out of Europe
Celtic’s chances of qualifying for the last 32 of the Europa League have to be hanging by a thread now. It would take a staggering run of results to get the Hoops into the later stages of the tournament.

Celtic and Lennon need to get the result out of their systems very soon. The Hoops take on Motherwell on Sunday, and really need to get a win to make sure that the season doesn’t begin to fall to pieces.
The nature of the performance in comparison to the win over Aberdeen on Sunday will be the most concerning thing for Neil Lennon.
If Celtic don’t get a consistent run going then there is real danger that the Hoops will end up throwing away the chance to win 10 in a row. It is time for the big players at Celtic to stand up and be counted.
In other news, Leigh Griffiths was praised by supporters for his performance against Sparta Prague.
