Chris Sutton has shared the rousing reception Ange Postecoglou received from fans upon coming out the tunnel at Celtic Park.

Sutton, involved with Premier Sports‘ coverage of tonight’s game against FC Midtjylland, tweeted the reaction that Postecoglou got in Paradise.

Postecoglou named a surprising starting XI for his first competitive match on the hallowed Celtic Park turf. In comes Liel Abada, along with Qualifiers stalwart and international team-mate Nir Bitton.

Ryan Christie starts, after weeks of speculation about his future.

As for this reaction, it’s clear Postecoglou has gone from a relative unknown in Scotland to a popular Celtic boss. With only a handful of pre-season games behind him, the former Australia man has had to work quickly, with a thin squad of players.

Additionally, our own man Hamish Carton told us that Postecoglou walked down the touchline to rapturous applause from the Celtic faithful.

Pundit and former Celtic man Chris Sutton has been cynical about the Bhoys’ chances of progression. In his Daily Record column, Sutton wrote:

“With just over three days to go until the first leg I can’t ever remember the squad being this disjointed.

“The club is all over the place.

“It’s a shocking state of affairs. Every season when it comes round to the Champions League we seem to be talking about the same situation, the same dilemma because Celtic haven’t acted quickly enough.”

Celtic fans are already buying into Postecoglou vision

Yes, it might be very early days, and God knows we’ve been burnt by optimism before.

But everything about Ange Postecoglou, from his demeanour to his tactics, have made him a popular figure with Celtic supporters. Even after friendly matches, he hasn’t made any excuses, and has been honest with fans about a range of issues.

It’s refreshing, and there’s little wonder supporters are buying in. Curmudgeonly but Celtic-minded, I’d pay a penny for Chris Sutton’s thoughts as he filmed the footage shared on Twitter…
