As the fallout over Celtic’s cup exit to Kilmarnock rumbles on, former Celtic hero, Chris Sutton, has asked serious questions about the club’s transfer business this summer.
Reacting to the defeat on his BBC 606 radio show, Sutton cast doubt over whether or not the club have brought in enough quality to replace ex-Celtic winger, Jota, and defender, Carl Starfelt.
Sutton said [BBC 606], “Celtic lost Jota who was a key player for them last season. He went on to Saudi Arabia for big money and haven’t really replaced him.
“That centre-back partnership, I don’t think they lost a domestic game with Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt. Carter-Vickers pulled has a hamstring injury Carl Starfelt was sold to Celta Vigo and you’re thinking, ‘Why are you letting a player of that ilk go when there are important games coming up at the start of the season?’
“They went out of the League Cup today and that’s a big blow for Brendan Rodgers. He won his first two games. Should they [Celtic] have acted in the transfer market and brought a bit more quality in? I think they should have done.”
It’s early days but the jury is out on Celtic’s new recruits
This is not the first time Sutton has voiced his concerns about the quality of the Celtic squad. His immediate reaction to the loss to Kilmarnock on Twitter at full-time made that clear.

If there is one thing yesterday’s cup exit has done, it is that there is now even more pressure on the new summer signings.
Hyunjun Yang and Maik Nawrocki have impressed prior to yesterday’s defeat but now, the pressure is on them and the rest to deliver in the coming weeks.
Brendan Rodgers has alluded that he wants to add more quality to the Celtic team. After yesterday’s showing, we will all be hoping that the Celtic manager has something up his sleeve before the transfer window closes in less than two weeks’ time.
