Celtic’s win over Livingston today puts the team back on top of the league ahead of next week’s Glasgow Derby.
In the 3-0 win, Brendan Rodgers saw the return of Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers to first-team action as the Hoops put in a positive performance at what is traditionally a tricky ground for Celtic to visit.
But it wasn’t Reo Hatate’s return that particularly excited Chris Sutton. Well it did, but it was Carter-Vickers who was taking the acclaim of the former Celtic hero as Sutton used a strange phrase to describe just how good the American has been at the club.
Sutton is bored talking about Carter-Vickers
Sutton is usually very good with his one-liners to describe Celtic players but this one is a new one on me and, surprisingly, he does make a lot of sense.
Speaking pre-match Sutton said [Sky Sports], “It’s interesting the calls to play Hatate and Carter Vickers today. Kris has mentioned the pitch, Brendan has to gamble though as he can’t afford a slip-up today at Livingston.
“It’s not ideal. It’s boring talking about Carter-Vickers really because we know how good he is and how influential he is at Celtic.
“And when he’s in the back line, you just feel that Celtic are more solid, more water-tight and far better off with him there. So that’s a boost.”

I’ve written many times on this site just how important Carter-Vickers is to Celtic and that we’ve only lost four domestic fixtures since he arrived on loan in 2021.
The £6m Celtic spent on the American has been a great investment as Carter-Vickers has hoovered up five trophies out of six in his first two seasons at the club.
With a domestic double still to play for, if Carter-Vickers can help Brendan Rodgers deliver that, then he will have paid back another slice of the £6m Ange Postecoglou shelled out on him two summers ago.
