Ange Postecoglou will forever be adored by the Celtic faithful.

Many managers have won silverware at the club, but the manner in which Postecoglou did it and the circumstances he first walked into, is something that has probably pushed him right at the top of the recognition table.

Postecoglou’s Treble season at Celtic was a parting gift for the fans, but since leaving the club last summer, it hasn’t gone to plan.

Many inside Celtic understood the Australian’s reason for taking the Tottenham job because it’s a high-profile Premier League club.

After flying high and sitting top of the table after his first ten league matches in English football, since then, it has been a roller coaster of the highest emotions.

That includes Spurs letting a 2-0 lead slip and losing 4-3 to London rivals Chelsea over the weekend, with many criticising Postecoglou’s style and approach.

But Chris Sutton wanted to shut down the path Robbie Savage was trying to take in all of this.

Robbie Savage reminded about Ange Postecoglou’s trophy-winning career amid Tottenham criticism

Celtic have dominated Scottish football in their sleep, as you might as well go home if you ever consider finishing second because it just isn’t accepted.

Postecoglou doesn’t have that type of pressure at Spurs, but there is this desire to win silverware, but pundits such as Robbie Savage feel that it won’t happen unless he changes his ways.

Chris Sutton told the former Wales international that, whilst the 59-year-old’s biggest weakness is his ‘stubbornness’, he simply won’t change and it has worked everywhere he has managed, as he told 606.

But when Savage stated that Ange can only win trophies in that expansive way at Celtic, he shut down his fellow pundit by reminding him of his 25+ year managerial career and how Tottenham don’t win much themselves.

“I know from his time at Celtic and I know from his time at Tottenham that Ange Postecoglou will not compromise,” said Sutton.

Savage then responded: “You can do that at Celtic. You can be that open and expansive team, because you can. You can.” Sutton then added: “We don’t need to get into a big long debate. This is a guy, who has had 25 or 26 years in coaching and this style has worked for him.”

Savage then interrupted: “At Celtic,” to which Sutton responded: “Hang on, not just at Celtic. Everywhere he has been. He has been a huge success. If he has a weakness, then it’s his stubbornness, in that respect. So, Spurs fans, remember when he got the job and why they wanted him. Robbie Williams singing songs about him ‘Ange ball’ and all of that. Spurs fans have to decide. They want to be a winning team. Well, they haven’t won anything in years. When he got the job it was because they wanted to see entertaining football. You can’t say you aren’t seeing entertaining football.”

How many trophies has Postecoglou won in his managerial career?

As Sutton mentioned, it’s a career that has spanned over two decades and it has seen him manage a variety of teams – from Australia to the J-League in Japan.

Everywhere he has gone, he has lifted silverware, with his most memorable moments coming in the colours of Celtic.

A total of five trophies were won in Glasgow, added to the countless other trophies he has picked up across the world.
