The dust is now starting to settle after a season like no other in Scotland.

The outcome was the same, and that’s Celtic walking away with the trophies, but what surrounded it was quite remarkable.

Even up until the final game of the season, Hearts found issues with Celtic’s actions, including fans celebrating on the pitch after Callum Osmand’s goal hit the back of the net to put the cherry on top of the title cake.

It’s not just Hearts who have been moaning, but rivals across the waters, as Chris Sutton had a simple message for them all: ‘they can’t handle’ Celtic’s trophy success.

“Essentially, Celtic got the job done,” said Sutton. “Got over the line. The team at the end of the season that gets the most points deserves to win the title.

“But sometimes people can’t handle that.”

Name Celtic’s best and worst player this season…🤔🤨🍀

Chris Sutton defends Celtic after more trophy success

Even when Celtic were flying and ripping everyone around them, neutrals would moan about the club’s dominance.

Yet, here are the champions of Scotland winning the double during a campaign where many, many things have gone wrong.

You just know that the tears will now flow like a waterfall because this isn’t Celtic’s fault that the opposition can’t stop the club’s success.

“That is nonsense,” said Sutton on the noise around Celtic winning the title based on bad refereeing decisions.

“Celtic won the double on merit. A lot of people just can’t handle that. I get that Hearts’ story, and they have been brilliant. I feel for Derek McInnes. I feel for the Hearts players.

Celtic’s roll of honour during the last ten years

From Trebles to one season when Steven Gerrard won the title at Rangers behind closed doors, it has been another decade of dominance from those in green and white.

But this campaign, because of what happened from start to finish, probably tops the lot, and you could tell that with how the supporters celebrated.
