Chris Sutton tells Robbie Savage ‘you’re stupid’ after Celtic title race call

Chris Sutton isn’t swayed by Celtic’s fightback against Rangers on Sunday…

For him, it’s still going to be too big an ask for Martin O’Neill’s men to win the title.

It’s now beyond doubt that we are in a four-way title-race, with Motherwell continuing their stellar form with yet another win and clean sheet on Saturday.

And on his radio show with Robbie Savage, the Celtic hero clashed with his co-host over his take on Motherwell’s title aspirations.

Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage on Celtic, Motherwell and title-race

On BBC Radio’s 606, Motherwell fan Wilson phoned in to declare his faith that the Steelmen can win the league. Sutton said: “Do you know what though, Rob, Wilson does have a point.

“You’re ten points off Hearts, with a game in hand. You go to Celtic in a few weeks… Motherwell are quite capable of playing teams like Celtic.

“I mean, you played them off the park earlier in the season.”

Savage then pushed Sutton on who will win the league, and the ex-striker said: “I think Hearts will win it.

“But I’m saying, I really will not dismiss [Motherwell]. I really won’t.

“But the whole point Wilson makes about the manager… I mean, the biggest thing from Motherwell’s perspective [is that] it’s going to be really hard to keep a hold of Jens, isn’t it.”

Asked by Savage what order he foresees for the league’s top four, Sutton said: “Hearts first, Rangers second”, and after a long pause, “Celtic third, Motherwell fourth.”

An incredulous Savage then said: “You just said that they can win it, and you’ve put them to finish fourth! Are you okay?”

The debate was derailed by the argument, with Sutton saying “you’re stupid” as Savage tried to move the show on to talk about Chelsea.

Which formation do you think suits Celtic best for the rest of the season? 🤨

4-3-3 has been the go-to this season, but should it be switched up?

Jens Berthel Askou widely being tipped for the Celtic job

The Fir Park boss hasn’t made any noise about his Motherwell future, but the media certainly has.

Charlie Mulgrew has given Askou a rousing endorsement, saying that his football would be ‘perfect’ for the Scottish champions.

Frank McAvennie has also urged Celtic to appoint Askou, saying that he would be the one to take the Hoops to the next level.

Asked about who will be leading Celtic this August, Tom English saw him as the favourite, describing the appointment as a ‘no-brainer’.

And, evidently, Sutton is sold on Askou – and he is not an easy man to please.
