Celtic got the Wilfried Nancy appointment horribly wrong.

There was a lot of trust in Celtic appointing Nancy in December because of how well Ange Postecoglou did, and the initial noise around his name when he first walked through the doors in 2021 and how he turned it around.

Yes, Martin O’Neill could win the title with Celtic, but he has made it clear that he will only be in charge until the end of the campaign.

Therefore, when the champions of Scotland look for their next coach in the summer, Frank McAvennie wants the powers that be to look closer to home, and towards Fir Park in Motherwell.

Motherwell’s Jens Berthel Askou to be Celtic’s next manager?

There is a common consensus that Motherwell are the best footballing side in the Premiership this season.

Jens Berthel Askou was appointed Well’s manager at the start of the campaign, and he currently has them sitting fourth in the Premiership table, five points behind the Hoops.

Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie made it clear that he wants Askou in the Celtic Park dugout next season.

“Who I would love, right at this moment? The Motherwell manager,” said McAvennie. “The way they are playing football.

“Could you imagine what he could do with a club like Celtic? I mean, that could take us on to the next level.

“Martin is doing a brilliant job, but it’s one of them. It is what it is. At the moment, Martin is just being Martin, and he is surviving.”

Askou’s record at Motherwell

It needs to be noted that Motherwell do not have the biggest budget in the league, so competing for a possible top-six finish is impressive.

If the Steelmen continue in their ways, then there is also every chance that they are in Europe next season. Once again, it will prove the stellar job Askou is doing.

Either way, this is how the Danish coach’s record stacks up at Motherwell this season.
