Chris Sutton thinks Martin O’Neill has just sent a subtle message to the Celtic board

Just because Celtic are in safe hands with Martin O’Neill, it doesn’t mean they are out of troubled waters.

Celtic supporters were glad to be back to winning ways on Saturday by thrashing Dundee United 4-0, and keeping in touch with the Premiership title race.

But with the January transfer window re-opened, this is the Hoops’ chance to try and fix many issues that have eaten up the club from within this term.

That puts extra spotlight on the Celtic board, and Chris Sutton thinks O’Neill was sending a message to the board over the weekend.

Would you follow these steps if you were on the Celtic board too?

Martin O’Neill’s subtle message to the Celtic board

Even though O’Neill has won every domestic game over his two spells in interim charge this season, it doesn’t mean that he is being upbeat about winning the title.

Following Celtic’s win over Dundee United, Sutton thinks his former manager is sending a subtle message to the powers that be about how ‘they certainly need help’, as he told Sky Sports Football (11/01/26).

“The most important thing from Celtic’s point of view (getting back to winning ways),” said Sutton.

“I am really pleased that Martin said that. He said, ‘If they aren’t going to bring players in, they could be in serious trouble.’

“So, that’s now the message to the board. Just because you have beaten Dundee United. Wiped the floor with them. They certainly need help. The games are coming thick and fast.”

Celtic’s most important areas to address in January…

Many Celtic supporters will be verbally kicking and screaming because it’s already halfway through the window, and very little has been done.

It’s further proof why Celtic fans protest against the board, as Stephen Welsh is to be recalled from his loan spell at Motherwell.

That probably indicates that the club won’t bring in another right-sided centre-back because Welsh will be the guy they use in that role from now on.
