Christopher Jullien aiming for Celtic pre-season impact with latest Instagram message
Celtic defender Christopher Jullien’s future with the club is currently up in the air.
After a brilliant start to life at Parkhead, the 29-year-old has suffered a nightmare two years, facing several injury issues.
During the second half of last season, there was some hope about the possibility of Jullien breaking into Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
However, the Frenchman struggled to force himself into the starting line-up, ahead of the solid centre-back duo of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Overall, Jullien went on to make only one appearance during the 2021/22 campaign in a 16-minute cameo against Raith Rovers.
This led many fans to question what might be next for the former Toulouse man at Celtic Park and whether he would be moved on heading into the final year of his contract.
The defender looked all but destined for the exit door last week, after flying to Germany to complete a transfer to recently promoted Bundesliga side Schalke.
However, the move fell through at the last minute, with reports stating that it was due to a disagreement on personal terms.
Although the German side didn’t completely shut the door, Schalke appears to have now moved on and are close to signing Japanese defender Maya Yoshida.
Jullien has since returned to Lennoxtown, joining the first-team group in training and yesterday, the central defender travelled with the squad to the pre-season camp in Austria.
Whilst some may have thought his future was destined to be away from Parkhead, Jullien might not have that same frame of mind.
Taking to Instagram, the Frenchman posted a picture of him training in Austria with the caption “Seize the moment #Keepworking“.
Is Jullien ready to stay and fight for his place?
As Celtic fans have become well aware, the experienced defender loves a cryptic Instagram post, and that appears to be no different with his latest social media message.
This might suggest that the current Hoops defender is up for the test this pre-season.
That wouldn’t be the first time we have heard that this summer, either, with reports from the Daily Record in June stating that the defender insisted he was going nowhere and wanted to fight for his place.
Ultimately, the final decision will come down to Postecoglou, who appears to be keen to bring another defender to the club during this summer’s window.
Jullien faces a tough challenge ahead, but the Celtic manager has shown previously he will hand opportunities to those who work hard and earn them.
