Celtic’s Jonathan Afolabi has suffered a setback whilst on loan at Dundee. The 20-year-old striker, who has scored one goal in four games for the Dens Park side so far this season, was forced off after only 40 minutes of Dundee’s 3-3 draw with Alloa on Friday night.
As yet there is no word on the severity of the injury. He looked to suffer an ankle or leg problem whilst making an innocuous challenge for the ball.
Taken off in first-half
Hopefully the injury isn’t a bad one, and the player can return to action soon. However, you would imagine that he won’t be going away on international duty with the Republic or Ireland.
The injury will be disappointing for both the player and his club. Indeed, as reported by 67HH, Dundee boss James McPake has been raving about the player, describing him as a ‘handful and technically’ very good.
Afolabi’s start has also impressed his erstwhile Celtic team-mates. The player took to Instagram to celebrate scoring his first goal for Dundee, and as reported by 67HH the attacking duo of Leigh Griffiths and Karamoko Dembele were among those to respond with how impressed they were.
With the current issues Celtic have, there is no knowing what the team will look like next season. You have to imagine that there will be changes to the first-team squad though. That is where the likes of Afolabi and the others out on loan will be looking to impress.
Could find himself in first-team plans in the future
If he can find the back of the net regularly, then he could put himself in contention for a first-team spot next season, no matter who the manager is.

That is why the player and indeed Celtic will be hoping that the injury is not a bad one.
After the shut down ended his loan spell with Dunfermline last season, the last thing Afolabi will want is a lengthy injury absence. Hopefully that will not be the case.
In other news, Chris Sutton has concerns over Neil Lennon’s future at Celtic.
