Confirmed: Celtic star Odsonne Edouard won't be at July Tokyo Olympics

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard hasn’t been included in the French squad for the upcoming Olympics in Japan.

There were fears Edouard wouldn’t be available for the Bhoys for next month’s Champions League qualifiers due to his inclusion. Match dates clash.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this year he was set to feature at the games.

However, Sylvain Ripoll has named his squad and it doesn’t include the striker.

It’s unclear why he has been excluded, but Celtic did reserve the right to deny his inclusion. The tournament isn’t on the official FIFA calendar, meaning the Bhoys could keep him in Scotland.

Given the importance of our upcoming matches, it’s the right call however it has come about.

Edouard has also been significantly linked with transfer exits, so it’s unclear what his future holds.

New manager Ange Postecoglou told journalists today he’s set to hold talks with the Frenchman.

This update is great news though. Even if he’s only in place for one or two rounds, it could make the difference in securing European qualification this season.

Hopefully, we get more details on all this soon, with Edouard due to take part in Celtic training next week.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou confirms he has the freedom to make Celtic coaching staff changes.
