Crewe Alexandra have confirmed that Celtic midfielder Scott Robertson has returned to Parkhead after picking up a season-ending injury.
The English League One club state that Robertson has undergone a successful operation. However, he will now spend the rest of his rehab period at Celtic Park.
The tenacious youngster joined Crewe back in the summer and made an instant impression. Overall, he managed to make 23 appearances down south. However, injuries and suspensions have halted his progress, according to Crewe’s official website.
Indeed, Robertson last played for The Railwaymen back in early February. He’s missed the club’s last 8 league matches, and now it’s clear why.
The move to Crewe came after spells with fellow League One clubs Gillingham and Doncaster Rovers last season.
Crewe have wished the midfielder every success in his recovery as he prepares for a recuperation period.

An unfortunate end to a productive campaign for Celtic youngster Scott Robertson
It’s an extremely gutting blow for Robertson. Especially when you consider that Crewe are bottom of the League One table and are in the middle of a relegation battle.
It would’ve been a terrific experience for Robertson to try and play his part in that. However, a lengthy absence has led to him unfortunately being forced to pull the plug on the deal.
Even so, he got more first-team exposure this season than he would if he remained at Parkhead. He still managed to play a decent role and also high his highs and lows. All of this is important and should help the 20-year-old in his development.
Whether another loan spell is on the cards next season or not remains to be seen. The most important thing for Robertson is ensuring that he heals up and gets himself ready for pre-season.
Ange Postecoglou has already shown that a pathway into his first-team exists for youngsters ready to make the step-up. However, whether it comes to pass or not for Robertson this summer is anyone’s guess.
For now, all Celtic supporters will just be wishing him the best as he looks ahead to the summer.
