Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn’s ‘revenge’ message after Celtic’s demolition of Aberdeen

All the hype surrounding Celtic meeting Aberdeen was blown away at Hampden yesterday after a painful 90 minutes for Jimmy Thelin’s side.

A hattrick from Daizen Maeda and goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Nicolas Kuhn helped Celtic cruise past Aberdeen and into the League Cup final in December with ease.

However, the game didn’t go according to the script that the Scottish media were building all week as many predicted a tight contest between Scotland’s two unbeaten teams.

But a comprehensive 6-0 scoreline undoubtedly sent a big message to the rest of Scottish football but not as big as the one Celtic heroes Maeda and Kuhn sent to Aberdeen post-match at Hampden.

Maeda went home with the match ball after his superb hattrick floored The Dons but it was what the Japanese midfielder said afterwards that will really strike home with Jimmy Thelin’s side.

Maeda told Celtic TV, “First of all I’m happy to go into the final as a team. It was a brilliant pitch and also a
brilliant support so I feel very comfortable to play today.

“In the league game, we play against them in such a performance so we wanted to get the revenge against them so it was good to have a win today.”

But it wasn’t just Maeda that shared that view. Nicolas Kuhn also referenced the Parkhead draw as he spoke to the club media after the match.

Kuhn said, “Really happy. I think the chances we missed in the league we made good here so unbelievable result and just happy.

“I think the counter-attack was pretty good, especially first half and to make the early goals was important and then we just kept going.

“And after we saw what happened with the 2-0 in the league we just had to focus and today we had to bring it over the line and that’s what we did.”

The Celtic players were clearly itching to prove a point against Aberdeen after the amount of praise and hype surrounding their start to the season.

At Celtic Park Brendan Rodgers’ team was wasteful and, if Thelin was really honest with himself, he will admit that Aberdeen should have suffered the same defeat in the league as they did against Celtic last night.

Rodgers will find out today whether or not he will face Rangers or Motherwell in the December final but after watching Celtic rout Aberdeen yesterday, the Hoops boss will not care who he gets at the Hampden showpiece event next month.
