Japanese forward Daizen Maeda has really come into his own this season for Celtic.

Since joining the Bhoys in 2022, Maeda has had to share a frontline with talent such as Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota.

Due to the incredible impact of the others, he often found himself out of the spotlight and less of a focal point – therefore delivering a somewhat underwhelming output in terms of goals and assists.

But with Kyogo and Jota having moved on (albeit with Jota returning this January), Maeda has managed to establish himself as the standout attacker for Celtic.

In 47 games across all competitions, he’s scored 33 goals and racked up 11 assists, managing a goal every 112 minutes.

He’s the firm favourite for the club’s Player of the Year award, as he’s led Celtic to the brink of yet another treble.

Maeda has been confirmed as fit to play in the upcoming Old Firm, despite an injury scare.

His rise in stature has been matched by his increase in market value, representing tremendous business by the club.

Daizen Maeda has risen in value by 587% from £1.36m since joining Celtic

Daizen Maeda joined Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos on a loan with an obligation to buy in December 2021.

At the point of the initial loan, Maeda was worth just £1.36m on the market. Even by the end of his loan, his value had already more than doubled to £2.98m.

This led to a great deal for Celtic, where the club paid just £1.3m for the Japanese forward as part of the obligation to buy.

The 27-year-old’s value has gone nowhere but up ever since – rising a remarkable 587% to £9.37m.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the biggest increase has come as a result of this season.

In May 2024, Maeda was worth £5.96m, before reaching his current value of £9.37m off the back of a very successful season at Celtic.

Bhoys fans think he’s clear winner of the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award as a result.

However, the Japanese forward’s contract runs out in 2027, so the club have a decision to make on his future.

His value will only drop as it gets closer to the final year of his contract, unless a new extension is agreed of course.

Premier League clubs are interested in signing Daizen Maeda

According to a report from TBR Football, Premier League clubs are interested in signing Daizen Maeda after an impressive season for Celtic.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have all watched the Japanese forward so far this season, TBR Football reports.

Maeda’s incredible increase in market value could see him leave the club for a decent fee, with £25m being reported as a likely price for the winger.

His Champions League performances this season will definitely have attracted attention from some of the top Premier League clubs, having scored four goals in nine games.

The 27-year-old has previously spoken about his future in Glasgow, and didn’t exactly put any rumours to bed.

When asked by Sky Sports if he saw himself at Celtic for the long-term, he said: “Well, I’m not sure. That’s a difficult question.

“While I’m here, I always want to fight and play for Celtic. I want to keep focusing and playing for the team.”

With just two years left on his contract, it could be a pivotal summer for Daizen Maeda.
