Darren Bent shuts down Danny Rohl’s Celtic dream after being appointed Rangers boss

Danny Rohl is the man who will take on Brendan Rodgers at Hampden for the League Cup semi-final next week.

Rodgers has seen off many Rangers managers whilst in the Celtic dugout, and now it’s time for Rohl to face the best coach in Scotland.

Yes, Celtic are nowhere near their best right now, but Rodgers has won four trophies since returning to Parkhead, including beating Rangers in the League Cup final last season.

Whilst Rohl is tasked with trying to win games straight away and chase down Celtic, Darren Bent has shut all of that down.

Darren Bent sends Celtic message to Rangers boss Danny Rohl

Rangers are sitting sixth in the Premiership table, eight points behind Celtic, who are a further five points behind the early leaders Hearts.

But following Rohl’s appointment, Bent shut down Rangers’ dream of finishing above Celtic on talkSPORT by stating that it simply isn’t going to happen, and even questioned the value of the Ibrox gig.

“Is the Rangers job still an attractive one?” asked Bent. “Them and Celtic are huge football clubs.

“But the fact that they have taken so long to find a manager, and people turning them down, is it still attractive as it once was?

“What are Rangers’ ambitions this season? It’s easy to go, ‘finish above Celtic’, but that’s not going to happen.

“But, at the moment, Celtic aren’t even top; it’s Hearts, and they have a five-point lead over Celtic. What are Rangers’ aspirations? What? Finish above Celtic? What do you do?!”

Don’t bet against Rohl not lasting the season because, given how Rangers fans treated Russell Martin, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is out the door sooner rather than later.
