Dave King terrified of sustained Celtic success as Rangers boardroom drama engulfs Ibrox

The man who once claimed Celtic would fold like a pack of cards is now citing sustained Bhoys success as a reason for pursuing a return to power at Ibrox.

After Rangers chairman John Bennett announced his decision to step down, Dave King has been rather forward in his attempts to return to the role.

However, reports indicate that the current board have no appetite for him to walk back into the club and take power.

That hasn’t stopped King’s media assault continuing and on Thursday he called for an EGM so that fans could decide who they want in control of the Ibrox side’s future.

The chaos is rather amusing. They seem to be in quite a state. And it’s the potential of more Celtic success at the root of the drama.

Dave King says Rangers ‘sleepwalking’ to Celtic title wins

In a furious statement, King said [Scottish Sun]: “The faceless names on the present board have presided over the hollowing out of our club.

“The significant cash received from supporters and from the sale of Bassey, Aribo, Patterson etc have been wasted on poor recruitment of managers and players, and poor cost control and oversight of infrastructure projects. Yet, those same faceless people want the chance to do it all again.

“When John Bennett took over he tried to turn things around- but had no human or financial resources to support him.

“It is amazing that the same people who got us into this trouble want to continue control by placing, as a professional chairman, their own puppet- who will have no knowledge of the club or financial interest in its future.

“We are sleepwalking Celtic towards 55, 56 and 57 instead of trying to stop them.”

Celtic hold big advantages on and off the pitch

Not only are Celtic clearly the best team in Scotland right now in terms of football on the pitch, but the way the club is run is miles ahead of the shoddy games being played across the city.

There is mature and robust leadership at the Bhoys. Supporters may not agree with everything that Chief Executive Michael Nicholson and the board do but, well, at least we have a chief executive.

Celtic’s recent financial results show how self-sustainable and successful the club is, with enough resources to push on to even greater heights.

The Bhoys have the opportunity to disappear off beyond the horizon and leave Rangers trailing for years – again.

This time, the focus must be on attaining a level in Europe that inspires fans and ushers in a new era at the Scottish champions.
