Former Celtic player Davie Provan is already liking what he’s seen of new signings Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi early in their career at the Bhoys.

Both attackers were on the scoresheet against FK Jablonec on Thursday night.

Provan reckons there’s plenty of positives to take from the Celtic performance in the Czech Republic.

Writing in his Scottish Sun column, he said: “Much to like about Celtic’s win in the Czech Republic. Sure, Jablonec were poor, but gaffer Ange Postecoglou is starting to put his mark on the team.

“Liel Abada looks the part, with Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi also looking good value.

“For what it’s worth, I thought Celts played well enough to win at Tynecastle but had no penetration. A couple of strikers and a pair of centre-backs who don’t ball watch should be next on Ange’s shopping list.”

New Celtic signings need to come good this season

Furuhashi was in red hot form before his move from Japan, so the manager knew what he was getting there.

Abada’s immediate impression is more of a surprise to me. I thought he might be a signing that takes time to adjust to Scottish football and settle in the country. He’s only 19 after all. However, his direct nature and obvious pace has given us a formidable weapon on the right flank.

It is heartening that Ange Postecoglou’s signings are making immediate impacts. We’ve never needed a group of new players to perform immediately as much, well, ever.

These two, and other signings such as Carl Starfelt, now need to show the consistency required to string together positive results in the Scottish Premiership.

That starts tomorrow at home to Dundee. For the first time in a while, I’m very excited about a Celtic match.
