Former Celtic star Moussa Dembele scored a Panenka penalty on Sunday evening, just days after Hoops forward Odsonne Edouard did the same against Copenhagen in the Europa League.
Last Thursday night Edouard showed excellent composure to dink a spot-kick past goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson with the Round of 32 European clash in the balance.
Ultimately Celtic would go on to collapse and lose the match but the goal from the French forward could have gone down as an iconic moment in the club’s history.
Dembele, playing for Lyon against St Etienne last night, also chose a pivotal moment to show off his composure, chipping an effort past the opposition to make it 2-0 on the night.
The derby specialist had also scored the opener. You can see both goals below.
Sunday’s match was, of course, not the only time that Dembele has netted a Panenka penalty in a derby match. His effort last night recalls a classic goal against Rangers at Hampden in 2018.
With Celtic two-up on the day, Dembele netted a chipped spot-kick past Wes Foderingham. The Bhoys would go on to romp the Scottish Cup semi-final classic by a four-goal margin.
The Lyon striker has now scored an exceptional 22 goals in all competitions this season as he continues to prove he was always destined for the elite level (Transfermarkt).
His old teammate Edouard isn’t doing too badly either of course. He’s scored 26 goals for Celtic this term, also registering 17 assists (Transfermarkt).
Edouard’s form has been soon good that some have suggested he has been better for the Bhoys than Dembele ever was, with Chris Sutton recently suggesting he is the best striker to have played for the club since Henrik Larsson.
Regardless, we have been lucky to watch both French strikers play in Glasgow and hopefully, Edouard has plenty of time left to write more chapters in his Celtic story.
