Kaper Schmeichel is drawing all the plaudits as the Celtic goalkeeper helped Denmark make history in the Nations League.
Schmeichel was praised in the Danish media for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Serbia which meant that the Danes qualified from the Nations League group stages for the first time in their history.
The Celtic number one made six saves in total as he kept out a Serbian side that knew beating Denmark meant that they would have nabbed a quarter-final place from Group 4A instead.
Speaking after the match, Denmark boss, Brian Riemer, explained how Schmeichel not only played his part on the park but the Celtic summer signing also made a big impression off it.

At 39 years of age, Schmeichel has a lot of experience to draw on. Winner of the English Premier League and the FA Cup, the big Dane also has 109 caps for his country.
And Riemer shared how Schmeichel took charge in the dressing room to help inspire some of the new faces Denmark called upon to secure their place in the next round.
Riemer told Berlingske, “Schmeichel did a great performance. He is a hugely important player for this team.

“He has a lot of experience in these kinds of games, and he took responsibility in the dressing room and on the pitch on a day when we had a lot of new faces.”

So good was Schmeichel’s performance for Denmark against Serbia, that the Celtic goalkeeper was awarded the Player of the Match by the Danish fans.
And reacting to the historic result, Manchester United star and Denmark’s stand-in captain, Christian Eriksen told Bold, “We had the chances we needed to score some goals and win the game.
“At times, we got on our heels, and they wanted to play long balls. We struggled a bit with that, but in large parts – especially in the second half – we had a pretty good handle on it.”
Denmark now goes into the quarter-final draw alongside group winners France, Germany, Portugal and Spain and fellow runners-up Croatia, Italy and the Netherlands.
