What the Danish media said about ‘super’ Celtic hero Kasper Schmeichel in Denmark draw vs Serbia

Celtic goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, kay well be 39 years of age but he is still producing the goods for club and country this season.

The big Dane is already a fan favourite with Celtic support, but it seems that now, after his performance for Denmark, Schmeichel is a hero again amongst his country’s media.

Schmeichel produced a great performance in the last international break despite losing to Switzerland and last night, the Celtic stopper produced the goods once more in a 0-0 draw with Serbia which sent Denmark into the Nations League play-offs.

Reacting to the performance, the Danish media were blown away by the Hoops ‘keeper as they lauded his ‘super’ performance for Brian Riemer’s team.

Making his 109th appearance for Denmark last night, Schmeichel’s goalkeeping heroics did not go unnoticed by the Danish media after his latest clean sheet.

Tipsbladet: ‘Kasper Schmeichel made two huge saves within the first six minutes of the match, and he kept Denmark in the game. The Danish keeper showed good security in the Danish goal, and in the second half he also delivered a great save. He can therefore be very pleased with the performance.’

Berlingske: ‘National team goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel shone and made several key saves to ensure that a half-tame Danish team got a 0-0 draw on Monday in the group final away to Serbia.’

Bold: ‘Not even eight minutes had passed before he had saved two great Serbian chances. He was confident in his interventions, and the chances were in Danish feet. There can be little doubt that the experienced goalkeeper showed over the two matches that he is Brian Riemer’s favourite for the cage. Did you see that save after 63 minutes?’

DR: ‘For the third time in 2024 alone, Kasper Schmeichel faced the Serbian players, and before this Monday night in Leskovac, the Danish keeper had not let a single goal go in. The fine statistics were somewhat challenged from the start, but the keeper started with a couple of good saves that prevented Serbia from getting the desired early lead.

‘Schmeichel seemed to be injured in relation to kick-off, but in the second half pulled up another super save on an attempt from Vlaovic. Third clean sheet against Serbia in 2024.’

Rated 8.5 by Fotmob, Schmeichel produced a wonderful performance to ensure Denmark finished second in their Nations League group to reach the play-off places.

The Celtic ‘keeper made a total of six saves to frustrate the Serbians who peppered the Denmark goal from the early stages.

Four of the six were diving saves with five of them inside the box. Schmeichel also made one punching clearance, made one instance of acting like a sweeper and also made four ball recoveries.

With 47 touches of the ball, the Celtic Park number one had a passing accuracy of 68% with just 10 of 22 long balls reaching a Danish teammate.

Brendan Rodgers will be delighted with Schmeichel’s praise as the Celtic goalkeeper’s confidence will be high heading into an important period of Celtic’s fixture schedule.
