Dermot Gallagher delivers Celtic penalty verdict vs Hibs

Celtic’s win over Hibs went by without any real VAR controversy this weekend.

The Bhoys beat Hibs convincingly despite the Easter Road club taking the lead against the run of play inside Celtic Park.

Goals from Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah and a fine strike by Celtic hero Reo Hatate sealed a routine win that kept the Hoops’ impressive home record against Hibs intact.

There was one Celtic Park flashpoint between Kuhn and Hibs’ Jack Iredale that the match referee was lambasted for.

But it was a penalty shout that Celtic could have had that grabbed the attention of Dermot Gallagher on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch.

Dermot Gallagher says Celtic penalty call vs Hibs was ‘so close’

There was a penalty shout Celtic could have had after the ball appeared to strike Hibs’ Nick Cadden in the first half when the Hoops were 1-0 down.

And whilst Gallagher admits the ball did strike the Hibs man’s arm, the former FIFA referee believes it was not a penalty.

Gallagher told Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, “I think this is so close, he brings his arm down, it does strike him but he brings his arm down as you would expect the defender to do towards his body.”

If the penalty was awarded it certainly would have been harsh as Cadden never really knew anything about it.

Celtic’s next three fixtures can end the season on a high

Celtic have three fixtures left of the season and Brendan Rodgers could end it on a high.

Two wins in the Scottish Premiership against Aberdeen and St Mirren will take Celtic close to the 90-point mark on 87.

And in the last game of the season, Celtic can win a treble if they can beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.

With a record ninth domestic treble on the line, Rodgers will further etch his name in the Celtic history books with another iconic achievement in Paradise.
