Dundee United captain Ryan Edwards has given his side a brutal assessment ahead of Celtic’s visit to Tannadice on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou’s flying Hoops visit Tayside with the home team winless in the Scottish Premiership this season, kept off the foot of the table by only a single goal, and Edwards believes that the conclusion most will come to about his side is wholly merited.
As reported by the Courier Sport, he said: “No-one is expecting us to get anything [against Celtic]. People will come to Tannadice and think we are a soft touch. That’s because we have lost games and the manner of goals we have conceded.

“Now, facing Celtic – the champions – everyone will write us off. So it is up to us to embrace that challenge, stay in the game for as long as possible and, from there, who knows what can happen? It’s all about confidence. This has been a hard, hard two weeks.
“Whatever we need to do to lift the spirits, we’ve got to do — and then we’ll test ourselves against the champions.”
Postecoglou’s side won two of their three visits to Tannadice last season, and Celtic will be looking to take advantage of Dundee United’s woes, with the Terrors holding extensive crisis talks following last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to St Mirren.
Edwards said: “We had a long conversation in the dressing room after St Mirren and there have been a few things like that; trying to get answers out of people. I think we got there.
“I’m not saying we are going to beat Celtic 3-0. It’s not as easy as that, but I can promise that we will be honest with each other and do everything to get back to winning games.”
Postecoglou will be taking nothing for granted and will make sure his side approach the assignment at Tannadice no differently to any other game.
Another three points will guarantee that the Hoops solidify their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership for another week ahead of a League Cup return to Dingwall on Wednesday, and the Glasgow derby next weekend.
Before then, however, all eyes will be on the Champions League Group Stage draw taking place at 5pm today, where the Hoops will learn their opponents for their forthcoming campaign, kicking off in a fortnight’s time.
