The Celtic supporters were left delighted with today’s announcement on Dominic McKay, but they now have their eyes fixated on Eddie Howe.

McKay’s start date at Parkhead was officially confirmed this morning. Celtic announced that the incoming Chief Executive would arrive on April 19th. However, he won’t fully take over from Peter Lawwell until July 1st.

The period between both dates will likely be to ensure a smooth transition for when Lawwell officially leaves the club. McKay arrives having had a hugely successful time in charge as the COO of Scottish Rugby.

It’s a massive statement of intent from Celtic to get their hands on McKay early. Especially considering the job he’s had on his hands with the SRU.

But the Hoops support, who have been so starved of positive news, have now quickly turned their sights onto the vacant managerial hot-seat. John Kennedy is set to be in charge from now until the end of the season. However, a report last night from the Scottish Sun last night claimed that Celtic are confident that they’ll appoint Eddie Howe this week.

McKay in next week; now it’s time for Howe

McKay will almost certainly want his new manager in place by the time he takes up his desk. Whether, of course, that appointment comes today or later in the week remains to be seen.

At the very least, today’s announcement is yet another positive step for the club. It’s yet more confirmation that we’re moving in the right direction. Yet more confirmation that change is coming to Celtic Park and it’s both real and substantial. We already knew McKay was arriving, but bagging him early is exactly what the club needs to move on from this catastrophic campaign.

Howe shouldn’t be too far behind of course. Only when that deal is completed will Celtic supporters be truly satisfied. Howe’s arrival will finally see the club ready to fully tackle next season and prepare for the hectic summer window.

For now, however, McKay’s arrival is a promising first step.

Here’s a look at how fans reacted to the news as their demand for Howe’s swift announcement was made clear:
