Celtic reached the playoff places in the Champions League before facing Aston Villa.
The Bhoys drew Bayern Munich in the next round of Europe’s top competition as Celtic secured 21st place in the UEFA Champions League.
Celtic’s defeat at Aston Villa was only the club’s second in the competition as Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers has already secured safe passage out of the group stages for the first time since 2013.
Reflecting on the game, Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague, shares what he saw the Celtic fans do inside Villa Park as both clubs played out a thrilling finale to the Champions League group stages.

Guillem Balague reflects on ‘very exciting’ Aston Villa vs Celtic Champions League tie
Balague told Football Daily [2m 38], “I was at Villa Park yesterday with two teams that had qualified and the night was electric.
“There were a lot of Celtic fans and they were enjoying themselves and the excitement of getting to the top eight at the end everybody was on their phones trying to find out what the position was.
“I don’t know how every web page managed to have a system by which a goal goes in and the whole league table gets all updated and it was all very exciting.
“So yes, I’m a big fan of the whole thing, as I was from the beginning. If somebody goes and says, let’s change things, I’d be a big fan and I know that football generally goes completely the other way.”
What Guillem Balague has previously said about Celtic fans
This, of course, is not the first time the Celtic supporters have left Balague impressed.
Taking in Celtic’s win over Rangers at Celtic Park when visiting Scotland for a break, Balague was left blown away by the Hoops supporters as he posted on social media a video of 60,000 fans singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
With Celtic set to host Bayern Munich in the playoff round, let’s hope the fans can recreate this atmosphere to help spur Brendan Rodgers’ team on to another famous European win.
