One of the feelgood stories that emerged over the cup final weekend was singer-songwriter Ellie Dixon’s embrace of the wonderful world of Celtic and the club’s Portuguese winger Jota.
As we discussed on Saturday, Dixon performed a live acoustic cover of the ‘Jota On The Wing’ fan chant on Patrick Kielty’s BBC Radio 5 Live show after the host took requests for the audience’s favourite football songs.
After it was well received and shared plenty by Celtic fans online, the singer decided to release a longer recorded version of the tune and share it across her social media channels – including her 1.2m followers on TikTok and 200,000 large audience on Instagram. The song has racked up over 300,000 views across Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube since it was uploaded prior to yesterday’s cup final kick-off.
Credit has to go to Ellie for both her musical ability and quick thinking in rapidly serving an eager audience, further boosting her popularity.
The club have even been getting involved, promoting the song on their own accounts, including Twitter.
Dixon has no doubt attracted some new fans to her music and given she has provided us with some quality entertainment it’s only fair we give you a steer on where to find out more.
Her new single ‘Big Lizard Energy’ is out now across a variety of a music services including Spotify and Apple Music.
There’s also a tour coming up in May across the UK and Germany, which you can find details of on her Instagram page.
I’m no tour manager but I wouldn’t be surprised if plans for a Glasgow gig are also being quickly scribbled into the diary this week!
As for Jota? Well, his own Celtic tour continues in Paisley on Sunday when the attacker and his teammates strive to maintain a healthy lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership against St Mirren.
In other news, A rare win for the SFA in Celtic cup victory but much more is needed.
