English club Ipswich Town have used the famous “What’s goalie daein, Tom?” audio from a Celtic win over Rangers in a TikTok clip that went viral over the weekend.
Conor Chaplin scored a dramatic late equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday after a goalkeeping disaster from Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Macauley Bonne stalked the goalkeeper as he was preparing to punt it up the park, only to snatch the ball and set-up the opportunity that led to Chaplin’s strike.
On the official Ipswich Town TikTok account, the club shared a clip of the incident, backed by the famous audio of commentator Hugh Burns’ forlorn cry as Moussa Dembele scored in a 3-2 win at Ibrox.
The Celtic fightback has to start this week
The video has been watched over 1,100,000 times and racked up over 111,000 likes since being posted a day ago. Proof that this particular Celtic moment will never die.
It’s a Dembele goal that has endured over time and will continue to do so, not just for the excellence of it in a derby win, but because of the legendary Rangers TV commentary.
We’ve not been able to enjoy the exploits of that channel as much in recent times, but for a period there some must-watch clips were coming out of the Ibrox media team.
Those days of Celtic being imperious in every competition in Scotland are what everyone at the club is striving to get towards again, with a long rebuild underway led by Ange Postecoglou.
