English club’s nod to ‘giants’ Celtic as they snap up former Hoops star

Celtic have transfer business of their own to conclude before Monday night’s deadline.

A striker is the priority with Kelechi Iheanacho a loan target for Brendan Rodgers‘ side.

The Sevilla frontman has been approached about a loan with a future buy option and that would be the ideal scenario to replace Kyogo with a proven goal scorer in the Premier League and beyond.

Sondre Orjasaeter is another who has been the subject of a bid from Celtic but we at 67 Hail Hail told you how before anyone else that the offer was rejected.

More deals will have to be done and there is still time to get them over the line.

Stuart Armstrong moves to Sheffield Wednesday

But it is always nice to see the good guys earn moves after leaving the Hoops, which is exactly what happened this week.

Stuart Armstrong joined Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough and was immediately thrown into the matchday squad on the bench for their clash with Luton Town in the English Championship.

The 32-year-old enjoyed an excellent time at Parkhead before he left for Southampton in 2018 for around £7million but he has since played with Vancouver Whitecaps alongside Ryan Gauld before moving back to England.

In his official announcement, the Owls namechecked Celts as “Scottish Premiership giants” – which is an understatement – but it was nice for the club to be acknowledged as a heavyweight.

Sheffield Wednesday dub Celtic ‘giants’

“The Owls have signed the vastly experienced international Stuart Armstrong from Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps,” their Armstrong post read.

“The midfield man bolsters Danny Rohl’s engine room options, bringing outstanding pedigree and knowhow to Hillsborough.

“Armstrong has amassed over 400 appearances domestically, scoring 63 goals, while earning 51 caps for Scotland.

“Starting out with Dundee United in 2010, the 32-year-old went on to make 150 appearances for the Tannadice outfit.

“He switched to SPL(sic) giants Celtic in 2015 for a trophy-laden three years with the Bhoys, lifting three league titles and successive trebles.

“Armstrong then headed south of the border to sign for Southampton in a reported £7m move and made 222 appearances for the Saints.

“A brief stint in Vancouver followed in September last year and following the conclusion of the MLS season, his next chapter unfolds back on these shores in S6.”
